🔍 Botanical Name:
Beaucarnea recurvata
🌿 Plant Features:
Trunk/Base:
Swollen, bulbous trunk (often called a "caudex") that stores water – resembling an elephant’s foot.
Leaves:
Long, narrow, strap-like green leaves that cascade from the top in a fountain-like or ponytail shape. Leaves can grow 2–3 feet long indoors.
Growth Habit:
Slow-growing; can reach 6–8 feet indoors over many years, but can grow up to 30 feet tall in its native habitat outdoors.
🌱 Care Requirements:
Light:
Bright, indirect light to full sun. It thrives in sunny windows.

Drought-tolerant; water sparingly. Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.

Well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix.
Temperature:
Prefers warm environments (60–80°F / 15–27°C). Not frost-tolerant.
Humidity:
Low to average humidity levels are fine.
Fertilizer:
Feed lightly during the growing season (spring/summer) with a diluted liquid fertilizer.
🐾 Pet Safety:
Non-toxic to cats and dogs (according to the ASPCA), but ingestion may cause mild gastrointestinal upset.
🌼 Fun Facts:
Despite being a desert plant, it’s surprisingly adaptable indoors.
It can live for decades with minimal care.
Great for beginners and forgetful waterers due to its drought resistance.
